Is there an age when you have to stop driving?
Some older people go on driving well after it’s safe for them to do so. But did you know that others stop driving before they need to?
So how do you know when it’s safe to go on using your car – and when it’s time to hand over your keys for good?
Our researchers talked to drivers [age? What exactly is ‘older’?] and their relatives as well as consulting road safety experts. Here’s what we found out.
There are three points to think about when it comes to driving safely when you’re over 70 years old:
- driving conditions – day or night, rain or sun, the state of the roads, other drivers
- your car – maintenance, design and safety features, accessories and equipment
- you – your health, capabilities, mood, experience and skills
You haven’t got control over all of these, but you can do a lot to keep yourself and other road users safe.
